iOS 18.4.1 apparently fixed CarPlay problems

If you currently have problems with Apple’s iPhone vehicle integration CarPlay, you should urgently import the latest iOS update. With iOS 18.4.1, which had been released last week, Apple not only delivers an important security -critical patch – whose fixed gap has already been attacked – but also remedies difficulties in the car that occurred in March since the release of iOS 18.4.

The problems were expressed in the fact that iOS in certain vehicles was no longer able to contact the Car Entertainment system. Audis, Nissans, VWS and Mazdas were affected – although it was not about all models. The problems have in common that the vehicles mostly (also) have the option of displaying CarPlay ads in the instrument cluster or using wireless carplay, i.e. a wireless connection to the iPhone without USB-C and/or Lightning cables.

Apple had never officially commented on the problem, but wrote in the release notes of iOS 18.4.1 that “a rare problem that prevents the Wireless CarPlay in certain vehicles”. It is currently still unclear whether there is also a fix for users who had similar problems with cable connections, although these should have occurred comparatively rarely. In the meantime, it helped to completely delete the connection and to configure it.

The CarPlay bug had not noticed as part of the long beta phase of iOS 18.4, only with the public release there was user complaints. Unfortunately, this has happened more often recently – even under MacOS. Apple now leads great beta phases with both developers and the public (within the framework of the Public beta program) through. Users are encouraged to report problems via a feedback assistant, although rarely inquiries and/or notes come when a problem has been resolved.

As mentioned, users who have the problem with CarPlay should simply bring their iPhone to iOS 18.4.1. If there are still problems afterwards, it is recommended to delete the CarPlay connection (if possible both on the iPhone and in the car) and then to configure it again. iOS 18.4 also brings some positive aspects for CarPlay, including – depending on the screen – more icons on a screen, which can reduce scroll emergency.
