Openaai has completed the billion-dollar takeover of the hardware company IO from Designer legend Jony IVE, but calls the company “IO Products” because of a name. This was divided into the AI company the side you have gone back online with where the deal was announced at the end of May. It is very pleased that the team of “IO Products” was officially merged with that by Openaai, it says. IVE and his company LoveForm themselves remain independent, but have taken on “comprehensive design and creative tasks” for Openai. The short message does not show whether the name IO Products should remain for the actually hotting start-up.
io product instead of io
The cooperation between Openaai and Jony IVE is primarily about developing hardware for AI use. For this, Openai took over the start-up IO co-founded by IVE for $ 6.5 billion. After the conclusion of the takeover, Openai now has its own department for the development of AI-controlled devices. They should soon be omnipresent and bring AI use to everyday life. More precise things have not yet been known, but it has already been assured that the first device will not be an “in-ear device” or a “wearable”. It should not come onto the market before 2026.
The takeover was overshadowed by a name dispute with a company called “Iyo”. This also develops a device for the use of AI, it is headphones that should be controlled by natural language. At the end of June, Iyo was able to convince a judge in California that the risk of confusion through the names of the same is too great. As a result, Openaai had taken the page offline on which the deal was introduced with IVE. The text published there is now online again, but at one point the company name “IO” was replaced by “io products”, in the update on Wednesday there is only this name.
