Instead of Siri: Apple plans to change voice assistance for EU citizens

Apple will create a way in the future to determine the iPhone language assistance system itself. The new function does not come from the group itself, but is a reaction to the regulation by the European Commission and the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Like the financial news agency Bloomberg reportsthe group wants to accuse the EU “expected regulation”. For the first time, it is possible to switch off Siri as a standard language assistant and to choose a third party provider instead, according to informed circles.

Many Switches away from Siri?

It would be conceivable, for example, that Chatgpt’s voice fashion will take over, Google’s integrated language mode or voice assistant from Anthropic (Claude) or Meta (Meta AI). Which systems are supported exactly remains unclear. However, since Apple has to publish and open the interfaces, there should be a wide range-as is known from browsers and mail clients, for example. Apple had opened more and more areas in the course of the DMA to avoid the EU’s penalty payments or to adapt to the requirements. Other areas, such as navigation or messaging, can now be selected.

If Siri does not improve fundamentally – Apple recently had to postpone important new features – there could be many changes here. Approach to LLM-based systems

To catch up, Apple is currently working on a completely converted Siri. Instead of a hybrid variant from “old” Siri and an LLM-based system, you now want to focus completely on LLM technology, as the competition does. Internally, the technology is simply called “LLM Siri”. Apple fears, however, that the system is not exactly enough. Therefore, there should be “thousands of analysts” – including Spain, Ireland and Texas -, which are intended to evaluate Apple Intelligence output, for example in summaries. Iphones should also supply more data in the form of synthetic material.

Finally, it was said that the lack of Siri features such as personal context of the user or the interaction with apps and things that can be seen on the screen could appear until autumn. However, Apple herself got up to a year.
