Instagram is probably working on a group chat function “Community Chat”. This allows users to chat in groups of up to 250 people. The developer Alessandro Paluzzi had discovered the function, which in the past has repeatedly examined backends from various apps such as threads and has encountered planned functions.

Topics can be entered for the community chats. The control over who can join the individual users. However, there is apparently an upper limit of 250 people per community. At the WhatsApp Communities, the upper limit is around 500 people.
In contrast to WhatsApp channels with which creators send messages to followers, everyone can participate in communication in the community chat. There should also be integrated moderation functions As can be seen from the screenshots shared by Paluzzi. According to this, administrators can remove messages and members, and the community chats would also be checked for the guidelines. Opposite Engadget an Instagram spokesman described the function as an internal prototype that is not tested outside the company.
