Despite Apple’s increasing difficulties in shipping experts and material from China to India in order to build up the production there, the proportion of iPhones manufactured on the subcontinent is growing steadily. According to a new study by the Canalys market research institute, from the Yahoo quotedthe production rose by 53 percent to 23.9 million iPhones within one year. Currently between 16 and 17 percent of all Apple cell phones are said to come from India, some observers even speak of 20 percent. Important milestone is 2027: Until then, Apple claims to have reached 25 percent.
More and more production in India
The plan remains to produce almost all iPhones intended for the United States on the subcontinent in order to avoid possible punitive tariffs on Chinese goods as part of the still ongoing trade war between the USA and China. The problem: The Trump administration has long turned against this plan and wants Apple iPhones to manufacture in the United States.
Apple’s course towards India continues with the help of its suppliers. The most important finishing of the group, Foxconn, plays a central role here, but also other order manufacturers from Taiwan and increasingly also from India itself. High-end models such as the iPhone 16 Pro have been installed in the country since last year. With the iPhone 17 this autumn, all models should run off the assembly line directly on the subcontinent except for the very thin air. Finally, Apple’s iPhone business ran better again, in the first quarter the number of devices delivered is said to have attracted 13 percent, with a difficult market environment.
Interest in the iPhone 16 increased
Apple’s exports from India meanwhile grow rapidly. In May there was talk of the fact that the value had increased by over 100 percent. In the meantime, Apple is already an important pound for the Indian economy, which also shows the positive treatment of the group through the political leadership when Apple CEO Cook is in the country.
At the same time, Apple also seems to be able to discontinue more products in India – now the most populous nation on earth. Canalys also stated that the iPhone 16 recently sold well and made 55 percent on total sales. At the moment (second quarter 2025), Apple only occupies 6th place among all smartphone sellers in India.
