Together with the presentation of MacBook Air M4 and Mac Studio 2025, Apple has also announced a new function for its operating systems, which was not yet known: MacOS 15.4 and iOS 18.4 bring a new, relieved setup function. If you already have an iPhone, important data can be transferred directly to a new Mac. Alternatively, it can also be an iPad with iPados 18.4.

Keep iphone, it starts
“User: Inside, your iPhone can simply keep your iPhone next to the Mac and register quickly and easily with your Apple account to transfer your files, photos, messages, passwords and more to your new MacBook Air,” writes Apple-and confirms the publication date of MacOS 15.4 and iOS 18.4, which is in April. At first, Apple did not say how exactly the transmission takes place-whether it is only about cloud data or on the iPhone or iPad.
There is already a migration assistant for both the Mac and iPhone and iPad. With this you can transmit data directly from a supplier and use the local WLAN or a cable connection. The migration assistant on the Mac also understands the reading of existing backups on external storage media. The transmission from iPhone to iPhone allows a simple upgrade to a new device including all apps and stored data-only safety-critical apps such as banking applications have to be re-established.
Interesting for Switchers from Windows
The new feature, which has not yet had an official name, combines Apple's mobile devices and Mac in a new way. It should also help to make users who have so far used their iPhone on Windows PC to make it easier to switch to Apple computers, even if there is already their own migration assistant.
Apple has not yet communicated whether all Macs receive the function-including older Apple-Silicon and Intel machines. The feature was initially mentioned only in the press releases for the MacBook Air M4 and the Mac Studio M3 Ultra / M4 Max. Technically, this should not be a problem.
