Improvements for flights with the iPhone: Apple Wallet Sherlockt Flighty

With apps like Flighty or Mileways Having iPhone users a convenient way to track current flights: The apps also show, based also real-time data, for example precise departure times from the gate or delays, for example in the event of incoming machines, with which you should continue to fly. In addition, there are useful live activities that always keep the data up to date. But Apple also seems to be interested in these useful features. With iOS 26, these are sometimes integrated directly into the operating system. So it could be that FLIGHTY & CO. will soon be “lured” as they call it when Apple copies functions of third-party apps and thus (almost) makes them (almost) superfluous.

The central point of contact for future flight functions is the Apple Wallet. Already now there are mostly the boarding passes from the official apps of the airlines: you can quickly show them on the iPhone or Apple Watch if you are in the boarding process. The problem: So far, the digital boarding passes have been static. This changes with iOS 26: You can now be adapted “live”. Apple is planning cooperation with important airlines. Already announced are Lufthansa, Delta, American, United, Qantas, Virgin Australia, Air Canada, Jetstar, Jet Blue and Southwest.

In the future, all of these companies want to support live activities that are linked directly to the boarding pass that allow the flight to real-time-including information on gate and/or luggage ratio number. It is also possible to share them with friends, family and acquaintances. Apple also integrates the new “Where is?” Function for luggage from iOS 18 and a navigation from Gate to Gate via the card app (for most larger airports). Even standby lists and upgrade options should flow into the digital boarding cards.

It is still unclear whether the new boarding passes in Apple Wallet will have all the functions of FLighty & Co. For example, the so -called passport appears a unique selling point that graphically prepares all previous flights. However, it can be assumed that the feature circumference is “good enough”, which in the future will prevent some users from paying for a subscription to the third party app.

iOS 26 and Watchos 26 with the new boarding cards will appear in autumn 2025. There is already a developer beta, and a preliminary version for the public in the coming month.
