Grotkl without iPhone integration: Musks Xai sues Apple and Openai

Elon Musk makes his threat come true: Companies X and Xai submitted a lawsuit against Apple and Openai on Monday in the USA. The iPhone manufacturer and the Chatgpt maker have teamed up to secure their respective monopoly position and prevent competition, according to the accusation.

Xai asked Apple to integrate GROK into iOS, “but that was not allowed,” says the lawsuit (X et Xai V Apple and OpenaaiUS District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Az. 4: 25-CV-00914). Therefore, Grok does not get access to billions of inquiries from iPhone users and therefore cannot develop as quickly as chatt.

Apple’s partnership with Openaai is “illegal”, the plaintiffs argue; No other AI app is able to integrate so deeply into iOS. Users already have a chat bot that they can address via Siri, and are therefore less interested in downloading other AI apps. On top of that, Apple manipulates the App Store to make competitors less visible, the lawsuit says. Not enough, Apple also delays the approval of updates of the GROK app.

Elon Musk has already raised this accusation publicly and spoke of “political games” because GROK does not show up Apple’s list with “Must have” apps. In return, Apple insisted that the App Store was “fair and impartial”. The musk companies call for compensation and want to achieve an order that Apple and Openaai prohibits such procedures.

So far, Chatgpt is the only chat bot that Apple has prominently integrated in iOS, Siri and Apple Intelligence. Apple indicated months ago that a similarly designed integration of Google Gemini is planned, but it has not yet happened.

Chatgpt serves as an extension of Siris and certain Apple intelligence functions. Openais AI models do not run locally on the iPhone, but are approached via an interface in the cloud if users agree. Apple and Openaai praise not to use user questions for AI training. A Chatgpt account is not required, and the IP address remains veiled.
