Usually, buying smaller game studios through large corporations is not a big deal. At Apple, however, this is different: the iPhone manufacturer has never done so before. That changes now: Apple has The company RAC7 Bought from Vancouver in British Columbia in Canada. The IT publication Digital Trends, an Apple spokesman, reports on the deal confirmed the takeover. The meaning and purpose of the purchase are apparently to form an internal game studio within Apple for the first time.
“Special situation”
A giant is by no means. The company states on its own only to consist of two people. Rac7 has done a lot for this: his humorous comic-like title “Sneaky Sasquatch”, in which you play a hungry mountain monster, was one of the first titles within Apple’s in-house game absorption Arcade. “We love Sneaky Sasquatch and are pleased that the two-member RAC7 team came to Apple to continue working with us,” said Apple’s statement.
In its long history, Apple has often made purchases of smaller software companies – they like to become functions within the large systems (e.g. iTunes) or even their own apps (such as Logic Pro). It remains to be seen whether Apple’s own games can also be expected for the first time. But if the group already announces that RAC7 should continue its work, it can be expected. Apple offers the makers significantly more options than in the form of a small team. According to digital trends, the acquisition is not a “new game strategy”. The RAC7 purchase is a “special situation”. Apple wants to continue working with large and small game studios to expand Apple Arcade.
Own game app for all platforms?
Meanwhile, Apple is working on a new game app for iOS 19, which is intended to serve as a game launcher, leaderboard and communication tool. It is also said to be planned that the application on iPad, Mac and Apple TV run, i.e. all Apple platforms. According to one Report from Bloomberg the app will be pre -installed.
Interesting: On the Mac it is also planned not only to offer games from the App Store, but also those that can be purchased via direct channels. Even on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, it should not be a pure Apple arcade tool. The idea is obviously the rather unpopular Game Center to replace.
