In the fall of 2026, we expect Apple to unveil its first smartphone with a foldable display, but if you were hoping to see a foldable iPad soon too – take your time. The American company does not seem to plan to release such a device for at least a few more years, but according to rumors, its price will make it an extremely niche product anyway.
Rumors of a large-screen foldable device from Apple have been circulating for several years now, but in recent months it has become clear that the focus has shifted to a foldable phone rather than a tablet. New information from Bloomberg now claims that the foldable iPad will not appear until 2029.
It is expected that the device in question will be positioned between the iPad and the MacBook, since in a semi-folded position it will also be able to be used as a laptop with a virtual (or additional hardware) keyboard. At this stage, it is rumored that it is about an 18-inch OLED screen that will be able to fold like a book.
Surprisingly or not, the price of this Apple product will be extremely high and may outpace even the amount for which the Apple Vision Pro is sold. It is believed that Apple plans to sell its foldable iPad for $3,900, which is equivalent to three pieces of the current 13-inch iPad Pro.
Against this background, however, we must remember that Huawei released a similar device some time ago, the price of which is as much as $3400, and in China. And whether 2029 will remain the ultimate goal for the launch of the product and whether this is Apple’s final price – we are yet to find out.
