First calculations: 700 dollars more for an iPhone because of Trump

The iPhone is an international product. Components are manufactured in numerous countries – including Taiwan or Germany – in order to be composed in China or India. The new tariffs of the US government under Donald Trump become a real problem for Apple. If the group struggled against a US trade war with China during the first term, the whole world now seems to be affected. The strategy, such as increasingly manufacturing in India, no longer works. The question now is what this means for iPhone prices, especially in the most important market, the USA-and thus Apple’s home itself. While the first analysts after the announcement of customs tariffs thought that everything was not quite as bad, new horror numbers came in over the weekend.

Apple cannot move supply chain

The investment company Rosenblatt Securities expects the price of the most expensive iPhone 16 (per max with 1 TB) to increase from the current $ 1, $ 2300 if Apple does not give up parts of its margin. Overall, price increases are estimated by up to 43 percent. From an iPhone 16 Pro, 1400 instead of $ 1, from an iPhone 16E 850 instead of $ 600. In order to largely compensate for the tariffs, the group would have to increase by at least 30 percent on average, according to market experts, so not quite as massive.

Apple does not have a direct alternative, unless the group has the Trump government. Although he could build final assembly in the United States – as Apple and his takeover of Next once had – he could still have components from all over the world, because the supply chain is simply missing in the USA.

Higher labor costs

The labor costs are also higher, which the tariffs probably do not exceed, but the hypothetical US iPhone does not make it cheaper. Vietnam was particularly caught with 46 percent, China even more at 54 percent. India is still treated comparatively gently at 26 percent.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal has more precisely calculated. The commissioned analysis company Techinights concludes that the pure hardware costs could increase from an iPhone 16 Pro from $ 850. In China, $ 30 is said to be valued for each assembled iPhone, according to Techinights, this could be up to $ 300.
