The Environmental Protection Group Extinction Rebellion (XR) committed a color attack on the probably most iconic Apple shop in the United States. Already on Sunday one of the activists came to the well -known Glass cube on the Fifth Avenue And smeared it with green spray paint. The group wanted to draw attention to one in her view of Apple’s climate-specific policy and demonstrate against CEO Tim Cook, who was present at the inauguration of US President Donald J. Trump.
“Dump Trump”
The sayings of extinction rebellion were: “boycotted Apple”, “throw away Trump, Apple!” (“Dump Trump”) and “Tim (Cook) + Trump = toxic”. The campaign went very quickly – so quickly that security guards could not intervene. The Apple Store Fifth Avenue is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is actually well secured.
Extinction Rebellion published Bluesky on the social network A video of the campaign And repeated the sprayed sayings. “Why did we do this? Because Tim Cook showed himself with a smile at Trump’s inauguration of Trump in 2025 – and since then no word said, while the government disassembled climate protection measures,” said the activists. “This is betrayal of the climate.”
Extinction Rebellion: Climate rug through Apple
In a press release, the New York department of Extinction Rebellion wrote that Big Tech can be seen “climate fraud”. In the first term of office in Trump, Apple, Google and Meta had still defended climate protection measures. This is no longer the case in the second term. Also, the corporations would no longer have been committed to the Paris climate agreement.
Extinction Rebellion had noticed in the past with partly controversial actions, for example with the staying of London local transport by people who stuck to trains or the damage to works of art. Apple did not comment on the campaign in his retail store and has now removed the sayings. The group itself emphasizes its climate engagement and wants to become climate -neutral as part of its supply chain, even if this includes controversial reforestation measures.
