Dreier-rack move for Mac Mini M4

Apple's Mac Mini M4 got some positive feedback from critics and users because the new compact Mac promises a lot of performance in a little space and-at least in the entry variants-is relatively cheap for Apple conditions. In addition to home and office users, the machine also opens up another target group: professionals. In addition to use as AI cluster, the Mac Mini M4 is also suitable as a space-saving server. The Apple accessory specialist Sonnet has now launched its own rack mount.

Three compact MAC in the 19-inch package

The US company had already stuffed earlier compact macs such as the Mac Mini in old design or the Mac Studio in its own server racks. The new Rackmac mini (2024) is now specifically intended for the Mac Mini M4. It is a 2U housing (i.e. 2he) that holds up to three Mac-Mini M4 machines-in 19-inch rack format. The annoying switch -on button that Apple had attached to the underside of the Mac Mini M4 is led to the outside by Sonnet via a mechanics.

All ports remain accessible on the front, as well as on the back. The Mac Minis also have enough space downwards so that the fans can work correctly-in this area there is also space for the assembly of external SSDs with bus power supply. This saves money because Apple's own flash modules are known to be very expensive. The housing should also be sufficiently permeable to wireless signals, says Sonnet.

SSD comes under the Mac Mini M4

The manufacturer recommends using SSDs that are not too high – for example T7 and Co. from Samsung. The Rackmac Mini weighs 2.7 kilos and is largely made of metal. Mounting materials are included. An active cooling does not install Sonnet. The housing should be able to be used both in server rooms and directly on the desk. Transporting the Mac Minis in the Rackmac Mini should also be possible, but rubber buffers are installed in order to protect the Macs.

The machines in the rack are not connected to each other, which also requires a suitable cabling. The price of the Rackmac Mini is 385 euros. The sale at Sonnet has already started, the specialist trade will be supplied in the coming weeks.
