Deutsche Telekom enables seamless ESIM change between iOS and Android

Customers of Deutsche Telekom, who want to take their ESIM with them when switching between the worlds iOS and Android, will no longer rely on the use of QR codes or apps. According to the Telekom press release, the group is currently the only network operator in Europe that offers a seamless change.

As the Telekom reportsthe scope of the supported devices is still severely restricted, especially on the Android page. While all iPhones with iOS 26 are apparently supported, only the Pixel 10 series is supported on the Google page. According to Telekom, further Android devices will follow shortly.

According to the network operator, the ESIM transfer will be launched directly in the settings of the new smartphone. The operating system recognizes the old device with installed ESIM and “initiates the safe change”. In the background, the Telekom system checks whether the device, tariff and user are entitled to change and then releases the change.

GSMA standard as the basis

According to Telekom, the simpler ESIM transfer is based on the different operating systems on the GSMA standard TS.43 and an entitlement server developed by Telekom. The server is used to manage the authorizations and control the “safe process”. Telekom wants to offer the service in other countries in the future.

If you believe the Google documentary of July 26, 2025, the TS.43 standard on the Android page from version 12 should be supported. Accordingly, older devices could also change an easier ESIM change, but network operators must support this and possibly meet other requirements. The first rumors about a seamless ESIM change between platforms have been circulating since June this year.

The change of an ESIM between smartphones has been possible with Telekom between iOS devices since 2020 and between Android devices since 2023 without detour.
