Delivery with bug: iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro with a rare camera problem

Under certain circumstances, users who acquire an iPhone 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max or iPhone Air from Friday are faced with an error in the camera system. That writes US TV broadcaster CNN. The problem ensures unsightly black (and rare white) areas when creating photos. Fortunately, however, it rarely occurs and has to do with (too) strong LED lights in the area. Apple is also informed according to the report and is working on a fix. When it comes is still unclear.

Beware of concerts

CNN noticed the bug while taking pictures of a rock concert. The band stood in front of a large LED screen. “About every tenth photo, which was recorded with the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro Max, showed small black areas, including boxes and parts of white flourishes that seem to come from the large LED board behind the band.” An Apple spokesman said that this could “in very rare cases” if an LED light display is “extremely bright” and “seems directly into the camera”. However, the group has already “identified” a fix and would play it in an “upcoming software update”.

However, LED lights are by no means rare. They can be found in more and more household lamps and have long been standard in the film and photo industry- even in a particularly bright shape. So far, it is unclear whether the problem can also occur in a studio setting. Apple had emphasized that even the recent keynote was filmed again with an iPhone (probably 17 Pro).

It is also interesting that the bug affects both 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max and the Air. The latter only comes with a single 48-megapixel camera, which Apple markets as a double camera because, switched down to 12 megapixels, it enables a use as a kind of pseudo-telephery (2x).

Apple begins to deliver his new iPhones tomorrow. The pre -order phase began at the end of last week. In addition to the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max and the completely new form factor Air, there is also a cheaper standard model, the iPhone 17. It comes with two cameras.
