Data protection report for Apple Intelligence has so far been rare

How often does Apple use the cloud for its AI functions and how often iPhone, Mac or iPad itself? This can be determined using an interesting integrated function, the so -called privacy report. However, this remains empty for many users. It is unclear why this happens.

Transparency log shows no requests

In contrast to its competitors such as Google, Anthropic or Openai, Apple tries to handle “on device” as many features of Apple Intelligence as possible. This primarily serves data protection: the group has no content. However, if the local models are overwhelmed – which can happen in the case of image generation as in the case of text position – Apple also changes to the cloud. For this purpose, the group uses a specially developed procedure called Private Cloud Compute (PCC), in which virtually encrypted is calculated, i.e. no data access beyond the actual user, even on the servers. Nevertheless, Apple is transparent and has installed a feature in MacOS, iOS and iPados that users report when there are PCC activities.

The so -called privacy report can be activated in the privacy settings under “Transparency Logs”. There it can also be created for a period of 15 minutes or 7 days, then export is then possible, for example, via Airdrop as a JSON file. However, the report often remains empty, even if Apple's writing tools were used very actively. A 9to5mac survey now shows that Only 15 percent of all respondents found a content in the privacy report.

Technical errors or lots of local AI

The makers of the Apple blog itself also report that no editorial member has seen a filled privacy report so far. A device activated for Apple Intelligence in the Mac & I editorial team is similar. In the 59 byte file, the “PrivateCloudcomputer Equests” are just as empty as the “Model Requests”. “Some of us at 9to5mac have tried the 7-day setting, but so far all of us have seen completely empty reports.”

It is unclear why. Either most AI actions within Apple Intelligence actually happen on the iPhone, which does not cushion the Privacy Report. Or the function is currently still error. Apple Intelligence is still in the beta phase. The service is also to be offered in German in April. At the moment it can be used in English variants, the easiest way is to adjust the device in US English and use an app store ID from the USA.
