Distraction is the biggest problem
Our constant companion distracts us from the things that we should actually focus on. In the home office you scroll through Instagram or Tiktok, while watching TV you can also read messages or when visiting a restaurant with your partner, you can look at the emails from work.
Tools that limit the screen time or certain apps can help regulate your own cell phone use. However, these functions only help a little according to personal experiences, since they are far too easy to avoid. Self -reflection and the rigorous uninstalling of apps or even the use of a cell phone that cannot do certain things are the much more effective solution.
Increase the hurdle for consumption
In order to be able to enjoy the important things in life and prevent digital burnout, you have to deliberately separate yourself from your smartphone today or narrow down its skills. Because the lower the hurdle is to use the cell phone or not access certain people, the more difficult it is to evade the distraction.
So why not only be called. This way you can be reached in emergencies, but you are not distracted. This can be achieved by using a device with a few functions. Simple cell phones are still available, so -called Dumb Phones, which only enable limited access to the Internet.
The more conservative alternative is uninstalling distracting apps. This mainly includes Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, but also emails and news sites. You can protect yourself from instinctive consumption if you have to install the app first.
More personal responsibility
So you only escape the flood of information if you consciously decide against it. More and more companies are calling for our data and – much worse – our time. You have to actively counteract this, otherwise you will miss things that you would have done if the cell phone hadn’t been so interesting. For example, going for a walk instead of sitting on the sofa and looking through Reels or consciously enjoying your food and not just consuming it while you go through your emails and chat messages.
