There are also things with the new iPhones that have not been leaked in advance: This includes the new selfie camera, which is in all models-17, Air, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. Apple calls it “Center Stage Front Camera” – and it is in each of the models, a democratic distribution. All four new iPhones now have an 18 megapixel sensor at the front. It is in the Dynamic Island, i.e. the area with the TrueEdth camera module, which also contains FACE ID face recognition. In addition to the higher resolution – previously it was 12 megapixels – there is a main re -renewal: the way the sensor is arranged has been changed. That has a decisive advantage.
Square and practical (he)
Instead of the previous 4: 3 format, the sensor is now square. In practice, this means that it doesn’t matter how to The iPhone holds. Users are therefore no longer forced to keep the iPhone in the selfie absorption in landscape format if more people have to go to the image that the upright would not go on it. The camera system works with AI: it recognizes if there are too many people in front of the lens and then automatically sets the format. The sensor also has a broader field-of-view and offers a tap-to-zoom function including manual rotation if the AI does not want the user.
What this means in practice and how much better recordings are with the new sensor must first be seen. The demobils during the keynote were quite good – but as is well known, they are always. Incidentally, Apple now only offers three iPhones, the selfie sensor of which is below 18 megapixels: iPhone 16, 16 plus and 16e. iPhone-15 models were officially discontinued (even if they initially remain available in stores).
Center-stage functions also here
At Apple, Center Stage actually means a feature that automatically comes to the fore in videos. It was once introduced at the iPad for the first time and has now also ended up in the Mac. With the iPhone, this means that the front camera can now automatically keep the user in the foreground on video calls, while this (in a certain frame) moves. In addition, a stabilized 4K HDR should also be possible due to the larger sensor-a little like the well-known action fashion of the rear camera. After all, there is now (without a special app) the option of with both cameras at the same time to record.
