CarPlay: After update to iOS 18.4 Display and connection problems

Apple’s vehicle integration for the iPhone, CarPlay, have reported problems since the update to iOS 18.4. It happens that the display is no longer loaded in the instrument cluster, sometimes CarPlay no longer reacts. Corresponding threads can be found among other things On Redditlike the automatic magazine AutoVolution reports. Apple had actually wanted to make improvements to CarPlay with the iPhone update.

The owner of a Honda Civic Hybrid of the 2025 from the USA writes that CarPlay had previously reported the currently played music in the instrument cluster. “After the update to 18.4 it no longer does it and is empty.” There are similar reports from Hondas of the predecessor year, various VW models, the Audi S3 and the Nissan Frontier. Mazdas (approximately CX-30 of 2025) should also be affected. In particular, new vehicles allow CarPlay, including sub-areas in the “Instrument Cluster”, that is, where the speed display and the tachometer are located, to fuck content-a feature that is very useful because you do not have to look at the main display.

In addition to the failure of the combination instrument content, there are also more fundamental carplay failures after update to iOS 18.4. The iPhone integration can no longer be started. Sometimes those affected had to establish the connection five times in a row. If the iPhone is coupled by car via wireless car play, this means that you have to delete the connection. Cycled car play can be plugged out and again, whereby you apparently have to partially delete the connection on the iPhone.

At the moment it is unclear what the problem triggers. Apple had started with iOS 18.4 to allow more icons on the main screen of CarPlay – actually a welcome innovation because you have to scroll less. However, it is only available on larger displays. In this context, there may be freshly introduced bugs.

A person concerned announced that he had to delete the iPhone connection and re-set up again with his Cupra Formentor so that CarPlay goes again. “Apple makes so much sh … lately,” wrote the person. It is unclear how quickly the problem is fixed, fortunately Apple can do this about a simple (again) iOS update, because the car ultimately only serves as a display for iPhone integration.
