The Bittorrent client Itorrent is no longer available via the Altstore in the EU. Apple has removed the necessary authorization to sell apps in alternative app marketplaces “without warning”, complains the developer In a Github threadAccordingly, he could no longer provide the app-neither in the old store nor via another alternative app marketplace. He contacted the iPhone Group, but after a long waiting time only “generic garbage” received as an answer. Finally, he was informed by Apple’s Developer Support that new information was “requested to the escalation team”.
Itorrent problem has existed for weeks
The problem has existed since mid -July and is also unsolved after weeks. At the Alternative App marketplace Altstore Pal, which ITORRENT has so far been charged, you also show yourself at a loss. Something was broken in Apple’s app sales portal “App Store Connect” and led to itorrent no longer listed in Altstore Pal, the provider Riley Testut writes and notes that it is one of the most popular apps there. Altstore has been in contact with Apple for weeks, nothing has changed. It is “really difficult to operate an app marketplace if apps simply disappear arbitrarily,” said Testut.
Whether Apple is specifically blocked or only causes problems with the shaky and unwanted scaffolding of iOS apps. Another Bittorrent client can still be found in the Altstore-as well as a porn app that Apple has granted her teeth.
Apple enables sideloading – but reluctant to
The Digital Markets Act forces Apple within the EU to allow alternative app stores and the Sideloading app sales via a website. Recently, the group had to significantly slim down the previously cumbersome download procedure of app stores, so that normal users can now do this.
However, developers have to continue to register for Apple’s Dev portal and submit their apps to check at Apple-also for sales outside the app store. According to its own statement, Apple checks the apps both automated and by employees, but has praised that the content of alternative sales channels is no longer incorporated in terms of content. In at least two cases, the group blocked Sideloading apps, including a Macintosh-128K emulator and a virtualizer. After all, the latter-probably under pressure from the EU Commission-allowed.
