Battery leaks: supposedly extremely thin battery for the iPhone 17 Air

Thin housing = thin battery: that seems to be the motto on the iPhone 17 Air. Apple may be the thinnest smartphone in general, the iPhone 16 Plus should replace and could be presented on September 9, 2026 together with the other new iPhone models. Now circulate in South Korea Recordings of the device’s battery. Compared to an iPhone-17-Pro-Akku, which is also leaked, it should only be about half as thin.

The unit (apparently at the thickest place) should only include 2.49 mm. So that there are no damage, the cells are in a metal coating. In order to still have enough capacity, the entire module is comparatively long and wide, so almost the entire housing size seems to be used. At the moment it is expected that the iPhone 17 Air (name can still change) will have a screen diagonal of 6.6 inches.

According to former leaks from Asia, the capacity should be 2800 to 3000 mAh. This roughly corresponds to what was once in iPhone 12 and 13. However, the values are not necessarily comparable because there are no volt information yet. With the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the battery is said to have over 5000 mAh, and volt information is also missing here. However, Apple usually uses the same value over several iPhone generations.

Apple intends to optimize the battery consumption of 17 Air using AI. Corresponding functions are in iOS 26. Nevertheless, it can be expected that the overall term is lower than users know this from other iPhones.

The manufacturer is said to have determined in internal tests that have already run that between 60 and 70 percent of the 17 Air users come through the day with one battery charge. That would be below the scale of 80 to 90 percent with not so flat iPhones. Apple follows competitors such as Samsung at the trend towards flatter models. With the S25 Edge in May, the South Koreans launched their thinning model so far. However, sales are running supposedly only mauPrice cuts could occur. One problem with the thin models remains their anticipated sensitivity, which many users should be grasped with a case – but that in turn thickens the housing again.
