Apple brings a useful feature that was previously only available for the in-house photo app on certain iPhone models, as an interface for other development opera. The a developer presentation of Apple can be found. The function called Audio Mix will be provided as part of iOS 26 in autumn in the form of an interface for third-party apps. Audio Mix is on the iPhone-16 models available and uses so -called computational audio to calculate sounds in the room.
Various sound options
Users can edit a video recorded with the camera of this Apple smartphone and then switch between four Spatial audio modes. If you choose “in-frame” (German: “Im Bild”), the voices of the people who are currently visible are highlighted. “Studio” promises a sound like in a “professional studio with sound insulation”.
This is “perfect for vlogs and podcasts,” writes Apple – it is as if the microphone is close to the mouth. “Cinematic” (“cinema”) finally takes up all the voices for the filming person and brings them together close to the screen – like “mixed for the cinema,” said Apple. The effect can be adjusted via a slider to separate the front and background. From iOS 26 this can now also be done in other apps as long as the videos have been recorded with the camera app. It is still unclear which apps Audio Mix will then support.
Spatial audio files as QtA
Apple also improves other audio functions. In the future, Language Memos can save the QuickTime-Patial Audio format QTA. “The QTA format supports several audio tracks with alternative trace groups, just like spatial audio files,” writes the company.
Owners of the iPad can also look forward to an important new podcasting feature: the so-called local capture. This allows individual podcaster to save their respective traces on the local device in order to bring them together in high quality later. At the moment it is not possible under iOS and iPados to carry out a second app in the background during a call – for example as part of a podcast to record local audio data. This is practically excluding the use of iPhones and iPads for remote podcasting.
