Do you want to keep your iPhone up to date? Then you should install the latest operating system on your Apple smartphone-also for safety reasons. The most recent big update was iOS 18, published in autumn 2024 and has been updated regularly since then. It runs on iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, 14, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max, 15, 15 Plus and SE of the second and third generation as well as the iPhone 16E published in spring 2025.
How Apple usually works
At iOS, Apple has been using an annual publication cycle for years. The new operating system will always be presented to the public in the summer: for the developer conference Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which typically takes place in early June. Immediately after the event, a beta version for developers will be published, a few weeks later – mostly in July – a public beta for all interested users who want the middle.
This year the developer conference WWDC 2025 will begin on June 9th. On this day, a keynote with Tim Cook and the Apple team is expected, which-alongside Ipados 19 and MacOS 16-will show iOS 19. It will be particularly exciting in 2025: the rumor mill awaits a larger redesign for iOS 19, which is based on Visionos and should also flow into Ipados 19 and MacOS 19.
When iOS 19 will be available this year
After the beta of iOS 19 has been published, testing can begin. The functions of external users are put through their paces, Apple often also makes important adjustments during the process. After months with several betas for developers such as private testers, the operating system is then ready for the public.
Usually Apple IOS always launches the market with new iPhones. The company likes to present this in September – usually in the first half of the month. It should look similar this year if nothing should come between. Even in the Corona year 2020, Apple stayed with his schedule and delivered iOS 14 in September, although the iPhone 12 was only published in October. It is still unclear to which devices iOS 19 will be compatible. The iPhone XS, XS Max and XR may fall out of support.
