Funny name, serious problem: the so -called duck heads, in English “Duckheads” named, the manufacturer Apple’s power supplies still cause problems when it comes to models for the European Union (and some other countries that use the Eurostecker or its offshoot). Because with a simple removal, the pens may bent and thus become unusable. Apple once hired an exchange program, but it no longer applies to the current Duckheads.
Clever with a small error
Apple’s electricity supplies, which the group can also be paid for expensive, are actually cleverly designed: they have the option of adapting the plug to the respective market in which they are used. To do this, you exchanged the duckhead with a few simple steps against the necessary. Depending on the region, a suitable one is included, and Apple also sells A “world” package as a travel plugin which all available duckheads are placed.
Of course, Apple’s duckheads are not indestructible – that is not technically not possible. But the bending problems can also occur if the power supply is regularly removed from a socket and minimally missed the correct angle. The pressure structure is then so large that the pens turn in a certain direction. After all, the pens do not break (more)-or at least rarely-: That was the reason for a multi-year exchange program of earlier Duckheads, which first affected EU plugs and their variants from other regions such as Korea and Brazil, plus plugs for the UK later.
Duckhead is a wearing part
If you stand there with a duckhead and bent plug, you should never continue to use it. In the worst case, the plugs can break off and electric shocks occur. However, Apple has no real remedy due to a lack of current exchange program: When asked at support, it was said that an EU duckhead outside the warranty costs exactly 22.61 euros including shipping-the purchase of the “world” package mentioned above, which is available in stores from 30 euros, is more worth it. In addition to the EU duckhead, it contains all other available ones.
Even if the Mac, to which the power supply is included, is still in the warranty (up to two years after purchase), Apple wants to take a closer look at the defective connector. So you have to an appointment in the store Or make an authorized service provider because it is a “wearing part”. Apple customers can only be recommended to carefully proceed when you remove the power supply and always pull it out of the socket-this applies in particular to wall sockets that do not know any game. In the Mac & I editorial team, however, a duckhead was damaged from a multiple socket when lifting it simply.
