Apple will add support for encrypted RCS messages

The GSM Association has announced the development of a brand new RCS specification that will allow encrypted messages between users to various software platforms, such as iOS and Android, for the first time. The technology has been developed in a narrow collaboration with mobile operators, smartphone manufacturers and mobile platform owners, including Apple.

Apple added RCS support with the arrival of iOS 18, but a big problem in the overall process was the lack of encryption of messages between iPhone users and their Android friends.

This obstacle, which is absent when using IMessage, will be adjusted by the introduction of the brand new RCS standard, which includes an end -to -end encryption based on the MLS (Messaging Layer Security) protocol.

The GSM Association also said that it has launched work on the option of sending encrypted RCS messages between iOS and Android in September last year in an attempt to maximize work optimization between the two platforms.

Apple, however, said they would gladly add support for the new RCS standard to a future update to iOS, iPados, MacOS and Watchos, immediately after its official commissioning.
