Apple Watch made of plastic: supposedly problems with production

There were speculation about an Apple Watch SE from colorful plastic – oriented towards the old iPhone 5c – last year. But then happened: nothing. Neither Apple updated the entry clock nor came a new housing material. In a report on Sunday it says that it may stay that way: Apple supposedly has various internal problems with the new model.

As Bloomberg Report Mark Gurman writes in his new newsletter, the plastic-SE is “seriously at risk”. The reason is, among other things, that the look designed for the look. In addition, and that may weigh even more severely, there should be difficulties in production. Apple's operations department has found that there is little saving through plastic. Supposedly, it is difficult to produce the housing much cheaper than from the current aluminum material that Apple uses for its cheaper computer clocks.

For Apple, a plastic-SE would have been a way to break down the entry clock even better from the remaining series-i.e. the current standard version Series 10, the Hermès variant and the Apple Watch Ultra 2-if it had received its own look. In addition, the plastic clock could have been made in many bright colors.

Apple's use of plastic in various products commuted over the years. So there were famous products such as the iBook or the first MacBook that used “iconic” white plastic. The iPhone 5c was only semi -loved, even if Apple was launched particularly colorfully – including suitable covers with holes. With the iPhone, the group is now always on aluminum and steel. The Apple Watch is currently available in aluminum, steel and titanium, Apple also used ceramics as well as-briefly-gold (18k) in the so-called edition models, which are no longer available in this form.

The next Apple Watch generation will be expected in September. One of the possible innovations is the possibility of measuring changes in blood pressure – although Apple has been trying for years and, according to Gurman, continues to have problems. Apple watch ultra fans also hope for a new model after Apple simply equipped the old Ultra 2 with a new housing color last year, but otherwise left unchanged. Furthermore, the Apple Watch could get 5G support for the first time-albeit with a lower data rate-and satellite radio.
