Not only the manufacturers themselves contribute to the enforcement of AI models, but in particular the developer community: it is to integrate the chatt, Claude or Llama into their own apps and thus (further) popularized. Apple now wants to use this trick: In the future, it is planned to release its own voice models and other AI technology that the iPhone group developed. That reports the Financial news agency Bloomberg.
SDK and frameworks already on the WWDC
A suitable software Development Kit (SDK) including the corresponding frameworks that allows a development of AI functions based on Apple’s Large Language Models (LLMS) could already be presented at the WWDC developer conference from June 9. The question is still how largely the functions are.
Currently, the features that Apple offers as part of its Ki system Apple Intelligence on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro are considered rather mau. For example, you can have texts rewritten, notifications and emails are summarized and pictures can be created-the latter not photo-realistic. There is neither a real chat bot – optional Openai – nor are the outputs outstanding. However, it was last said that Apple was at least approaching thanks to great investments by the competition.
First small, local models
Apparently, the focus is already on smaller voice models that run on the iPhone itself – at least at the beginning. However, these are even weaker than Apple’s full AI system, which changes to the cloud if the tasks are more demanding. Developers can already use the standard AI functions such as the writing tools, genemoji or image playground including notification summary. They are actually active by default, whereby there are opportunities to avoid them.
The meaning of SDK and frameworks is now that it is now possible for developers to write their own AI functions based on Apple technology. What that costs – and whether it may even be free – remains to be seen. The App Store should be a model: With the appearance of the software shop for iOS in 2008, Apple also released numerous own technologies for developers. It is also conceivable that Apple will show new own language models on the WWDC. However, the group only works on a “LLM-Siri” for 2026 or even 2027.
