The use of public WLAN networks is not always easy: each has to be Own “Captive” portal And demands different types of registration. Some are subject to a fee, some need – for example in the hotel – the number of the customer card, for others it is only enough to accept the legal conditions to be allowed to surf. If you have several devices, you must also log in to each computer, smartphone or tablet individually. Apple is now planning to make the use of Wi-Fi hotspots more user-friendly until next autumn. That reports The financial news agency Bloomberg.
iCloud account distributes Captive WLAN access
The new feature is to become part of iOS 19, iPados 19 and MacOS 16, probably also from Watchos 12. It is therefore a system that can distribute WLAN access data for public hotspots across all personal Apple devices that use the same iCloud account-i.e. the same Apple account. If the web form required for WLAN access has been filled out once, the information is also sent to the other devices. These then obviously do the login in the background, so that the WLAN is available immediately.
So far, it is still unclear whether this actually applies to all Wi-Fi hotspots or Apple initially only supports certain providers-such as mobile communications, hotel chains or large airports. Although the “captive” portals mentioned are standardized, as far as your call is concerned, the type of access management is not. It also remains unclear whether iOS 19 & Co. can also distribute paid WLAN access to other devices. With the aircraft WLAN, for example, only one device is usually supported at the same time, if you want to use several, this costs surcharge.
iOS and Co. help with private WiFi
Passwords for private WLAN networks (or simple routers in companies) have been able to distribute Apple operating systems across devices for several years, this is automatically offered. It is also possible to exist existing access data To the devices of friends to be handed over so that they do not have to be typed manually.
IOS 19, IPADOS 19 and MacOS 16 will be presented at the WWDC developer conference in June – then also made available as a developer beta. The final versions of the operating systems probably appear in September.
