Apple’s first augmented reality headset, the Vision Pro, is currently quite in the air when it comes to market positioning. The hardware is now out of date, as the device appeared over a year ago. At the same time, the manufacturer did not lower the extremely high price at the start – at least 4,000 euros in Europe – and does not open the sales, only Apple itself can officially sell the hardware. Information on the sales figures is not given, even if Apple CEO Tim Cook has already admitted that it was a product for early adopter, so only a niche. However, it is not to be expected that Apple simply buries the topic. In terms of future Apple products, Cook should be particularly interested in a significantly better successor to the Vision Pro. This is allegedly the main topic for new products. But such real AR glasses that Apple hopes for will probably still need years. Nevertheless, new Vision-Pro products can be expected relatively quickly. At least that is what the rumor mill claims.
Light model plus tethering on the Mac
Accordingly, two models are planned, both of which are supposed to bring interesting improvements. On the one hand, Apple works on a lighter vision pro that could appear in early 2026. Instead of aluminum, it should consist of titanium internally. This would solve a central problem or at least alleviate: the high weight of the headset. There may be new colors on the outside. Faster chips are still to be expected, in 2026 that would hopefully be the M5, which was expected in autumn at the latest, with Apple already on the older M2 with the Vision Pro.
Vision-Pro successor number two is supposedly a model that can be connected directly to the Mac. The idea here: With tethering, professionals – as with various other professional headsets – should be able to use industrial applications without a time delay on the vision pro. A “maximum quick response time” is said to be planned for this. It is still unclear whether it stays with this central feature or the new model has other revised functions. It is said to appear at the end of 2025 and thus earlier than the lighter model. After all, it is also conceivable that Apple combines both approaches and simply brings an all -round improved vision per 2 onto the market.
Rev construction work with the team
Most recently, there were personnel changes in the Vision Products Group (VPG), which is responsible for the vision products. One of the most important people in the division, manager Mike Rockwell, was transferred to the voice assistant Siri to finally accelerate Apple’s AI efforts. What this means for the VPG cannot currently be said. However, research on real AR glasses is likely to continue, as it is very important as mentioned as mentioned as mentioned.
In terms of vision-pro content, Apple is more and more adding its own content: Finally, a new one was Immersive video of the Pike-Peak race published.
