Apple Music Classical: More features and finally also on the web

Apple has its classic app Apple Music Classical in one new version 2.2 published. Despite the low increase in version numbers, Apple has installed a lot of new functions. At the same time, a web interface was started for the service, so that it can also be used directly on the desktop for the first time.

Apple Music Classical collects the classic content from Apple Music and is part of the music service for 10.99 euros per month – so you don't pay anything extra. A separate app for iPhone and iPad opens up the content. It is structured in such a way that you get a quick overview of composers, orchestras and soloists, which is much easier than this was used to users from the “normal” Apple Music app for rock, pop and Co. Apple had taken over and integrated the provider PrimePhonic.

With the update to version 2.2, Apple continues to work on a better curating of the offer, which in particular should help classical entrants. Over 100 popular works were given time synchronized accompanying texts with further information – so -called listening guides. There are new, personalized recommendations on the Apple Music Classical start page as well as curated radio stations for composers and more that provide suitable sound system without a break. The new accompanying texts are already available in German. “From the identification of the instruments that you hear, up to the explanation of the drama behind a symphony or a concert-our expert comments make the listening experience a learning experience and opens the doors to some of the admirable works of classical music,” said Apple in a statement to US media.

Apple gradually expands Apple Music Classical. Most recently, there was a larger update in November that had integrated CarPlay and Siri support for the first time. It is still very useful that Apple Music Classical now Via your own website can also be reached in the browser. Here you can also log in and access your own content.

What is still missing is a separate app for the Mac. It is unclear whether Apple is planning this. In addition, Apple Music Classical cannot be used offline directly in the app. The download function is missing, it is outsourced to Apple Music. This “break in media” is often criticized.
