The first information about a possible redesign of Watchos is becoming more detailed: According to a report by the Israeli magazine The Verifier from last week, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has now placed In his newsletter from Sunday after. It states that the new design language from iOS, iPados and MacOS is said to also come for the Apple Watch – the scope is still unclear.
Look partly glassy – but less aggressive?
The new, glassier look with the internal name Solarium promises to bring more uniformity on Apple’s platforms. For the Apple Watch, Gurman provides for “some of the new interface elements here and there”. A completely new throw is therefore not planned. In fact, the Watch icons have long been round, an element that should be new under iOS 19 – although the rounding could also be milder. The Apple Watch screen has always been angular.
Overall, it is planned, according to Gurman, that Watchos 12 receives a “somewhat smaller bite” from Solarium. Apple may want to wait with a large redesign until more changed new watch models appear. Actually, this year is an anniversary year, the first Apple Watch came onto the market in spring 2025. New models are now expected in autumn – as usual in September.
Ki: Yes, but with but
When it comes to AI support, the Vision Pro should also get a “button”: with the help of the iPhone. It is therefore planned to get functions “powered by Apple Intelligence” on the clock. AI models directly should not run on the clock. The Verifier had said here that the Apple Watch Ultra 3, which is expected in autumn, will receive exclusive special chips. However, this is unlikely because Apple Intelligence needs at least 8 GB of RAM, but the Apple Watch currently only has 1 GB.
Such a large upgrade for system-in-package, in which CPU, GPU and RAM are, would be technically too complex. Accordingly, the computer clock will then outsource the jobs to the iPhone, such as the content summary or gene mogy. That would not be new. Initially, simple apps were only extremely limited on the Apple Watch, they were also delivered via iPhone. So Apple has experience here.
