In the past week, Apple had published Ipados July 17, 7.7 for older iPads in addition to Ipados 18.5 and other important updates. The update should actually only plug numerous security holes, new functions are not included. The problem: The update caused massive difficulties for almost all iPad users who recorded it. The big bugfix is now to come with the iPados 17.7.8 made available on Tuesday.
Memory loss on the Apple tablet
After the installation of iPados 17.7.7, users had reported that numerous apps – whether from Apple or other providers – suffered from a form of memory loss: Once set up, accounts were forgotten when a program was restarted and had to be re -entered. If you started Apple’s word processing pages, the about the first time you open them. Safari forgot tabs and settings, Tikkok the stored access. The problems were so massive that Apple decided to stop the distribution of iPados 17.7.7 in the past week or to prevent the installation.
However, there is usually no easy way to subject an iPad to an operating system downgrade. Accordingly, Apple had to connect the fix to a version number increase. Here Ipados comes into play: The update can be “ironed over” simply via an existing iPados 17.7.7. Users who had not yet installed iPados 17.7.7 anyway can simply update directly on iPados 17.7.8.
Little information from Apple
Apple had initially left users in the rain when it comes to iPados 17.7.7 – apart from the withdrawal of the update, there was no official information about the problem complex. Even with iPados 17.7.8, users are not communicated what is actually a thing. The only thing that only says in the package insert is that the update delivers important security fixes and is “recommended for all users” – the same text as with iPados 17.7.7. Actually, the group would have to set up a support document for those affected – it is unclear whether this still comes.
Apple writes confusingly On his website for security updates Meanwhile, Ipados 17.7.8 contain “no published CVE entries”, i.e. no resolved gaps. However, since Ipados replaces 17.7.7, this should not be the case.
