Edits by Instagram: Meta brings out video editor as an app

Edits is a new app that belongs to Instagram, but can also be used separately. It is a video editor. Of course, the functions are designed to edit videos for Instagram, but they do not have to upload it, but can also be used for private purposes. There are no watermarks, such as with other video editing functions of social networks.

The app can be linked to your own Instagram account. Then you also get insights displayed directly how well reels, the short videos on Instagram, worked – for example, calls and reach as well as likes. You can create videos that make you a favor, save, create collections and create notes. A play button also shows videos that are particularly popular and can serve as inspiration. It then looks a bit like Tikkok – you wipe the videos upwards. You can also choose that you can only see videos of people who follow Instagram.

Several projects can be created and edited at the same time. One of the functions includes storing with music that can be selected from a library, and noise can be filtered in your own audio recordings. You can subsequently set videos using voiceover, there are sound effects to choose from and you can automatically create subtitles. Particularly important for a video editor-of course, videos can also be cut and combined.

Thanks to Meta AI, individual objects of a video can be exempted and placed on another picture or video. This corresponds to a green screen function. Meta works intensively on AI models for object recognition with the fair team.

Edits is available free of charge for iOS and Android. To edit videos with it, no previous knowledge is required, everything works very intuitively and can be tried out. It has already been announced that even more AI functions should move in.

The competitor of Edits is Capcut. A similar app with which videos can be processed from China and is developed by the TIKTOK mother group bytedance. Capcut has been around since 2019. Video editing there is also very simple, but equipped with large effects.
