EU fines Apple with € 500 million, Meta “gets rid of” only € 200 million

The European Union fines Apple and META with breakthrough sums due to violations and refusal to implement some of the rules in the digital market act in force within the Union. Apple will bear a penalty of € 500 million while Mark Zuckerberg’s company will have to pay barely € 200 million.

The fine aimed at Apple is related to the ongoing deliberate preservation Developers and external app stores that need to comply with a number of conditions and fees so that they can direct their customers outside the App Store.

The process involves paying a specialized fee to Apple, unnecessarily complicated steps for each individual user who wants to go beyond the ecosystem of the app’s app the apple, As well as a long list of requirements that each developer must meet.

The monetary sanction that META will have to pay is related to the need to pay a monthly fee if a user wants to remove ads from their feed on social networks Facebook and Instagram. According to META, their users within the EU are already seeing less ads, but apparently regulators have not considered these actions sufficient.

The two companies have received a 60-day period to make the necessary changes. However, in their decision, again not to comply with the current legislation, however, it can lead to regular fines in even larger in size.

According to Meta Global Affairs CEO Joel Kaplan, the EU treats US companies in a completely different way, unlike their Chinese and European competitors – an claim that at least remains unanswered by the European Commission.

Both Apple and Meta are determined to appeal the decision in court, but whether it will lead to more than delaying the inevitable is yet to be understood in the near future.
