No Apple Intelligence for WhatsApp & Co: Speculation about meta-blockade

Why is Apple Intelligence not available in meta apps like WhatsApp? The media and users currently speculate that the social media giant has deliberately blocked Apple’s AI functions in its iPhone apps. The Apple Intelligence, which is integrated in iOS, can neither be found in WhatsApp nor Instagram, Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Threads. In addition, in Instagram stories, no stickers can no longer be inserted via the iOS keyboard-and therefore no emojis generated by Apple AI (“Genojis”).

Triggering speculation is a Brazilian media reportthat states the lack of Apple’s Ki writing tools in the meta apps. Other reports speak of a sudden blockade, but there can hardly be any talk of this: For example, WhatsApp has never supported Apple in some regions since last autumn.

The AI tool (Writing Tools) is usually available wherever IOS can be entered and processed in iOS, for example via the context menu for text processing. However, this presupposes that apps use Apple’s standard scenic views (“UitextView or Uitextfield”). Own text views, as you like to use in messaging apps, must first consciously integrate Apple’s writing tools. Meta has obviously not done that. Support for Apple Intelligence is also missing in other messengers such as Signal or Slack.

Such an integration in its own text views in third-party developers should not be particularly high on the priority list: Apple Intelligence runs purely on the very latest iPhones from iPhone 15 Pro and is reportedly only used by a manageable number of users, accordingly the demand is probably limited. Other Apple intelligence functions such as the summary of messages also work as usual for WhatsApp and the other meta apps. Genoji can also be easily sent in WhatsApp as stickers.

The meta apps are among the most charged iPhone apps. There has been a profound animosity between Apple and Meta for years, in the mixed reality market the corporations are now direct competitors. According to a report, Apple considered an integration of Meta AI in Apple Intelligence last year, but rejected this for data protection reasons. So far, only Chatgpt Rudimentary has been involved in Apple Intelligence and Siri that Google Gemini could follow. Apple has so far not been a counterpart to the big chatbots.
