Tim Cook: His main project remains the Apple glasses

Already several years ago, at least since 2019, Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized how much future the area of augmented reality (AR) has for him. “Profound” is that and life -changing. At that time there was nothing to see from the first headset of the company, the Vision Pro. It is now different: the devices have been on the market in the United States for over a year and a year in Europe. Economically, it should be a flop, which is no wonder given the entry price of 4000 euros. But the technology behind it is further developed. This also has to do with Cook itself, as the financial news agency Bloomberg wrote at the weekend: According to this, there is hardly anything that is more important to him than the further development to real Apple computer glasses that can be put on the nose.

“Real” AR-Glasses are the plan where you want to beat Meta or Google. “Tim is interested in nothing else,” said an insider To the financial news agency Bloomberg. “It is the only thing he takes care of when it comes to the point of view of product development.” The plan remains the large vision of lightweight glasses that the customer can wear all day long. It is supposed to overlap the field of vision with AR, project pictures into the real world. The idea remains Cook’s top priority, according to the report.

However, it will still take “many years” for such AR glasses to be ready. This includes displays, chips with sufficient performance and small batteries with great capacity. According to Bloomberg, applications would have to be as exciting as that of the iPhone. After all, mass production and an adequate price. For comparison: At Metas Project Orion, the glasses per prototype unit are said to have cost around $ 10,000.

Before the AR glasses continue, Apple wants to launch a second vision Pro. It is supposedly lighter and cheaper – how much remains unclear. In addition, the device should receive a quick connection to the MAC in the future to allow high-end-prize applications without latency-be it for flight simulators or surgery applications.

At the moment, something like this only works with the Developer Strap, which Apple sells as a special accessory and that you have to put in particular, which disturbs freedom of movement.
