Shortly before the first of many customs rounds of the new US government, Apple apparently had 600 tons of iPhones fly into the USA from India-how was it possible so quickly? Bloomberg now seems to have found the answer: Foxconn India, a daughter of the Taiwanese company, has expanded its manufacturing capacities on the extent that has not been known to date. Another supplier there is said to be the Tata Group.
Like the news agency, citing sources reportedApple has already started in Corona pandemic to shift the production capacities together with its partners. Because of China’s strict Lockdowns, starting five years ago, the global supply chains were disturbed again and again for months. In the meantime, 20 percent of all iPhones are said to come from India. Another place of production for the Apple cell phones is Vietnam.
iPhones for 22 billion from India
According to Bloomberg, the Indian companies have produced iPhones with a factory tax of $ 22 billion in the past 12 months. The sum therefore does not refer to the market price of the devices, but to what the producers calculate Apple. The number of devices exported does not emerge from the report. According to earlier reports, Apple in India is primarily intended to have iPhones produced for the US market in order to avoid the existing trade conflict between the USA and China for a long time.
It was only last Friday that the US government had suspended the increased tariffs for electronics products that were announced eight days earlier-also for China. However, this should only be a mercy period, the tariffs are now to be set individually for certain product groups. Previously, the taxes for import from China had been increased again, most recently to 145 percent. According to the first announcement, 26 percent were for India, so that Apple and Foxconn’s commitment could also make sense in the long term.
