Tip: hold iPhone from the automatic airplay

As soon as I want to listen to music on the iPhone in the office, iOS automatically starts playback on my HomePod Mini. I did not deliberately divide the music there. The same happens on my Apple TV in the living room. How can I turn it off?

The “Automatic AirPlay” function is to blame. Since iOS 18, iOS devices have preferred media on an AirPlay recipient that is nearby, provided no Bluetooth device is linked to the iPhone or iPad.

So you don’t have to transfer the pieces of music manually. However, you can easily switch off the function: Open the iOS settings and change the selection under “General> AirPlay & Integration> Automatic AirPlay” from “Automatic” to “Nie”.

If you select the “Questions” option instead, iOS offers you at the start of playback to send the music to an AirPlay recipient nearby. So you can still keep the option to use the HomePod.
