The Strongbox, compatible with the open KeePass, has apparently ended up in the hands of a new developer team: The developer of the software has decided to “entrust the future of this outstanding product to our team at Applause,” says a message to customers. StrongBox now wants to continue and expand the new owner of Applause, after the presentation of the self-presentation “A team of indie developers”.
New developers promise seamless continuation
In addition to error deposits and performance improvements as well as support for the latest operating system versions of MacOS and IOS, Applause also promises to improve the documentation and localization of the program – especially in German. A first update for StrongBox will soon appear that no “disorders” can be expected. The developers also promisethat the support for Keepass is preserved and nothing changes in the storage and securing of the passwords – it is “no migration or conversion”. In the long term, new functions are to be added, such as insights into password hygiene.
It remains open for the time being whether something changes in the Strongbox business model. The app, which is only available for MacOS and iOS, is already based on an abomodell to unlock the pro version with all functions. So far, Strongbox Pro has also been obtained as a one -time purchase in the App Store for just under 70 euros.
Criticism with previous app takeovers
The surprising takeover of the software provides uncertainty for many Strongbox customers. The last purchases of Applause triggered considerable criticism: The reading app Voice Dream Reader only provided certain voices online and as a subscription after the purchase. Apparently, this also happens to users who had bought these votes beforehand. The silent takeover of the popular menu bar tool tool was particularly obscure by applause. The purchase was only communicated after several months – and only after users became suspicious.
