Ultrafine EVO 32U990A: LGS 6K monitor with Thunderbolt 5 comes in October

The South Korean manufacturer LG published all information for ten months after the first sign of life of the ultrafine EVO 6K monitor with model number 32U990A-S, including a price. According to the manufacturer, the 31.5-inch screen is primarily intended for “creative professionals with sophisticated workflows”.

The monitor presented in the course of the CES in January offers an even higher resolution of 6144 × 3456 pixels than the Ultrafine 5K models previously offered by LG. Only Dells Ultrasharp U3224KBA currently offers this resolution. The pixel density increases to 224 pixels per inch (PPI)-60 percent more than with the same size 4K models (3840 × 2160 pixels). LG uses its own Nano Ips Black Panel, which reaches darker black levels and thus higher contrasts than classic IPS panels. The color space cover with 10-bit grades per color channel estimates LG to 99.5 percent Adobe RGB and 98 percent DCI-P3. The manufacturer calibrates the display ex works.

For a long time, the backlight creates 450 cd/m² across the board. Up to 600 cd/m² is possible in the short term, with which the monitor meets the requirement for Vesa DisplayHDR 600. The base is adjustable in height, and the display can also be rotated 90 degrees (pivot).

As a gaming monitor, the screen is less suitable due to its refresh rate of 60 Hertz. In his announcement, LG makes it clear anyway that it is particularly suitable for graphics and video editing. According to the LG, the screen is suitable, among other things, through a studio mode with three preset color options for Mac devices.

The Ultrafine EVO 32U990A comes with twice Thunderbolt 5 (including DisplayPort 2.1 and once 96-watt shop), HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1 and three times USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 GBit/s). One of the two Thunderbolt connections and two USB ports serve as a hub: Users can connect one further display (Daisy Chain) or an EGPU or SSD, for example, to normal USB ports, for example periphery or an Ethernet adapter. If you don’t have a Thunderbolt or the closely related USB4, you can use the third USB-C connection as an upstream for the USB hub. An integrated KVM switch allows the change between image sources with the same periphery.

With the L-shaped base, the monitor can be tilted as well as in height. In addition, the display can be rotated 90 degrees (pivot), for example to edit long tables or to look at or edit youtube shorts. Alternatively, the monitor can also be attached to the feet and monitor arms by third-party manufacturers using a vesa holder (100 × 100 mm).

While the screen is already available in some countries, it should be on the market in Germany towards the end of October. In terms of price, it is cheaper with a non -binding retail price of 2000 euros than Dells Ultrasharp U3224KBA, which had started with a RRP around 2900 euros, but is now available for around 2,200 euros.
