Apple will put a new repair assistant for the Mac into operation with today’s release of MacOS 26 alias Tahoe. With this it is possible to calibrate different hardware components and sensors for the respective computer – particularly important if you incorporate spare parts. Apple allows free repair companies to also install parts from other computers-the same also applies to users of the “Self Service Repair” program, via which Apple also sells spare parts and provides instructions for repairs.
Touch ID and sensors
Apple had the Repair Assistant a year ago For the iPhone Released. This means that functions such as true tone, automatic brightness, true eth camera and battery can be calibrated for the device. As under iOS, the repair assistant can be found in the system settings under general and “via this Mac”. However, it is only listed if there are really new parts in the Mac. The reusing options include touch-ID sensor and screen cover sensor.
The point of the matter is not to adapt the third party parts to the Mac. Instead, it is about original Apple spare parts that have already been used or have previously been unscified so that, according to Apple, they show “the best possible reliability and security”. Touch ID sensors are protected by activation lock, so this must be in advance deactivated should be the previous owner. Apple also announced that Mobilestrix in the USA and MobileParts.Shop in Europe is available for independent repair companies with Apple parts.
Parts pairing requires calibration
Apple had already started the so -called Parts Pairing some time ago and emphasized that this serves security. Thanks to the “Parts Pairing”, Apple devices only recognize spare parts with certain serial numbers as legitimate components. Components from other manufacturers – except for Face ID and Touch ID – also work, but the operating system may then show a warning message. Apple has gradually introduced this part -time coupling for more and more components, including the display and camera system, for example.
Apple can ensure that the customer gets the “best possible quality” for original parts, it said. People would think Apple would block parts of third-party manufacturers-“what we don’t do,” said Hardware boss John Ternus in the previous spring. The Parts Pairing in turn requires calibration.
