iPhone-Foldable: Does Samsung “prepare the market” for Apple?

How exciting and new becoming Apple’s first iPhone foldable? In a report, the Financial news agency Bloomberg Now classified the possible hardware details that the device expected in autumn 2026 should bring. Although the old Apple acceptance is that the group does not come onto the market with its products, but ultimately delivers the best product of a category. With the foldable iPhone, however, there is a risk that “it will not be the innovative breakthrough we are used to,” said the report.

Built close to Samsung?

The reason: Apple is very late in the market this time. Competitor Samsung had started selling foldables seven years ago and continuously improved them. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 from this year has now become thinner and easier. Apple’s most important innovation on the first iPhone foldable is said to be a wrinkled display when opened. The group wants to achieve this via special metal plates. However, it can already be heard that Samsung could also rely on this approach in the coming year. In addition, the first foldable Apple smartphone should not be the thinnest device on the market, observers estimate.

Bloomberg continues that Samsung prepared the Apple market. “Samsung has already done a lot of hard work.” In the case of iPhone foldable, it is also not to be expected that the manufacturer is planning a “radical new interface” or “transformative hardware”. Instead, the iPhone foldable “a design similar to the Galaxy Z Fold” will have “with many of the same core components”. In fact, the flexible OLED display from the Samsung screen daughter Samsung Display should come.

The demand at Apple is real

However, Apple could still conquer an important niche with the first iPhone foldable: the reason: Foldables themselves are not yet mass business. This is among other things due to the price (Apple is said to plan 2000 euros and more), on the other hand also because not every smartphone buyer appreciates the form factor. But at Apple there is a large group among iPhone fans who want to try something new. “This thawed demand is real, and Apple knows that,” writes Bloomberg.

Apple is also planning to tackle at least some important deficits in technology. This includes said “freedom of wrinkles” as well as a significantly improved (and durable) folding mechanism. In addition, there are software functions that are specially adapted for the platform: preparations already seem to be running. After all, an iPhone foldable could also score in China, where the devices are already a relatively popular high-end category-with models that have not yet officially ended up in the West.
