Mmmh-Macs: When Apple Silicon saved the Macintosh | Mac & i-podcast

Five years Apple Silicon: The Mac is back from the intensification. In November 2020, Apple heralded a new era with the first M1 processors-and thus ended one of the darkest phases in Mac history. Problematic keyboards, stagnating X86 chips and lack of future prospects shaped the years before the ARM revolution.

Today, five years after the historical announcement, we can take stock: The change to their own chip architecture was a liberation that gave the Mac a real Renaissance.

In episode 101, Malte Kirchner and Leo Becker back to this remarkable transformation: from the initial fears to Apple-Silicon processors to today’s M4 devices that are considered the best Macs of all time. We discuss the development of the various chip generations, analyze successes such as the Unified Memory and early problems such as the display limits.

Particularly exciting: How the joint architecture with iPhone and iPad opened new possibilities and what challenges Apple still has to solve-from Mac Pro to the question of touch displays and integrated mobile phone chips.
