Not a magic in the iPhone 16E: These are the reasons according to Apple

The new iPhone 16E costs 700 euros – and is therefore no longer a entry -level product. Nevertheless, potential customers are confronted with some emissions. For example, the fact that there is only one camera was expected in advance. But with the exception of the SE, most observers simply do not understand that Apple simply deleted the magnetic charging standard Magsafe, which was part of all iPhones since the iPhone 12. For a long time, Apple did not comment on this, which led to partly wild speculation-for example, that the new, Apple-owned modemchip C1 could be incompatible. But there are apparently no technical reasons. The iPhone manufacturer has now confirmed this to a well-known Apple blogger.

As John Gruber writes as part of his iPhone-16e report at Daring Fireball, argues Apple About as: People who form the target group of the 16e invited their telephones “exclusively via a charging cable”. Because, according to Gruber, according to Gruber: “(these customers) tend to not use inductive charging at all-and if you do it, you may care that the 16e gets along with a measly 7.5-Wi charging speed, while newer, more expensive iPhones via Magsafe with 15 or even 25 watts.”

Apple therefore obviously believes that 16e buyers mostly come from iPhone SE (3), which so far has only dominated Qi (without Magsafe and Magnet), which is said to be used rather rarely. Accordingly, this crippling is continued on the brand new iPhone 16e and the group saves money during production. Apple blogger Gruber can surprisingly understand the argument: “I think Apple knows the target group of 16e better than me.” The readers of his specialist blog were just as much included as friends and family members of his readership.

How much Apple ultimately saves by omitting Magsafe is unclear – it shouldn't be really much, even if magnets like Magsafe often contain expensive rare earths and the assembly is also a bit more difficult. Above all, it should be disturbing for customers that the 16E cannot be operated with MAGSAFE accessories, for example Magsafe stands for the bedside table, handles and other accessories.

And that despite the fact that this would actually fit great due to the form factor of the 16E, which corresponds to that of the iPhone 14. The iPhone 16e has been on the market since last Friday. It costs 699 euros with 128 GB, but you can also spend 829 euros for 256 GB or even 1079 euros for 512 GB.
