In addition to iOS 26, IPADOS 26, Watchos 26 and MacOS 26, Apple has also announced a new version of TVOS at the WWDC 2025, which also also bears version number 26 (previously: 18). The main renewal is a revised look and a number of improvements in operation. This is how TVOS takes on Apple’s new “Liquid Glass” design with glass-like buttons and icons. The Facetime app was revised as well as Apple Music Sing (Karaoke app) and the change between Apple TV profiles.
Liquid Glass not for everyone
Important in advance: Although TVOS 26 runs on Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K of all three generations, only the Apple TV 4K of the second and third generation (from 2021 and 2022) gets the new UI design. Apple only installs old goods in its multimedia box: In the most recent Apple TV 4K there is an A15 Bionic, which was introduced with the iPhone 13 of 2021, even an even older A12 (from 2018) in the second generation Apple TV 4K. Nevertheless, it is commendable that Apple also supplies the older devices with updates.
The Liquid Glass-UI can be seen in the icons, in the TV app and in the control center. There are reflection effects, transparent buttons and new “cinematic poster art” for films. However, some will have to take a closer look to recognize the new UI, sometimes the changes are quite gentle. Apple promises that the surface adapts better to the display context and z. B. Videos grants more space, as it will be practically presented.

The Facetime app was revised optically and in terms of service. She now comes with contact posters. An iPhone has to be used as a camera, which was like that before. On request, the profile overview can now be displayed to the start of the device. This is good for families. Among other things, profiles contain settings and playlists, so that users only see what they really want.
Apple Music Sing, the karaoke app within TVOs, only supports iPhones as a microphone (from iPhone 11 / Apple TV 4K of the third generation), there is a reproduction via the screen. Animations on iPhone and Apple TV are also new. TVOS 26 will be released in autumn. A public beta is expected from July, developers can already test.
