Visionos 26: better persona, more spatial content and for the first time

The rumors that were previously the new Vision-Pro operating system were rather thin: much more than a new feature for scrolling using eye tracking had not been predicted. But as is now evident, Apple has dealt with visionos much more intensively. Like the other new operating systems, it now bears version number 26, so it is leaving a jump from (currently) Visionos 2.5.

Widgets for the vision, more spatial functions

Apple actually implemented the priority speculated in advance: it is called “Look to Scroll”. Apple did not take any time for the WWDC 2025 keynote at all, only called it in an overview with the most important new functions. One of the innovations that are more important for the group is the first integrated support for widgets. The mini programs are specially available for the Vision Pro, but “compatible widgets” of iPados programs can also be used. The visionos variants use 3D effects, for example with a new watch or spatial photos. Widgets are managed via a new administrative app and can be placed freely in the room. A new widget kit enables the creation of mini programs directly for visionos.

Apple has implemented improved spatial functions for the spatial photo function. In this way, existing 2D recordings can now be made more realistic 3D variants. They are presented, among other things, in the (already available) spatial gallery app, including curated materials from Apple itself. Spatial functions for the Safari browser are also new to take the first step into the “Spatial Web”. There is a new view that put existing websites into a 3D reading mode, in which photos are spatially. In addition, developers can incorporate 3D elements into their pages, which can then be easily pulled out of the browser and distribute them in the room-for example, fashion or furniture.

Apple claims to have significantly upgraded the non-controversial persona function with which users can send their own images into the 3D world as avatars. They got “dramatic” better, it said. Accessories: Sony support and 360-degree video
