US President Trump threatens Apple with 25 percent punitive tariff

US President Donald Trump publicly threatens Apple with a 25 percent punitive tariff on iPhones. In the event of the fact that the company does not relocate all its US iPhone production from India to the USA on Friday. Apple would have to pay this tariff to the state when importing the devices.

With Trump’s announcement in the communication service “Truth Social”, his demands on Apple boss Tim Cook further gain sharpness. A few weeks ago, Apple announced that the company will have the majority of its iPhones sold in the US market in the future in India. According to market reports, 60 million devices are concerned annually. With this, Apple wants to escape the intensified trade dispute between the USA and China, in the course of which Trump initiated very high punitive tariffs in the first half of the year.

Trump, on the other hand, is at the point of view that Apple should also have its devices sold in the USA. According to industry experts, this is considered unrealistic, since neither the necessary factories nor the staff can be provided at short notice in the necessary number. The cost situation for Apple would also mean that the company either has to do without profits or increase its prices significantly.

In addition to Cook’s announcement of moving device production to India for the United States, it was also known that Apple’s order manufacturer Foxconn is currently investing $ 1.5 billion in the expansion of Indian production. This includes a system for the production of display modules in Chennai. At the beginning of the year, however, Apple also promised investments of $ 500 billion in the United States.
