360-degree action cam insta360 x5 with interchangeable lenses

The action camera manufacturer Insta360 has presented a new model of its X series. The X5 comes with two sensors, each on each side, which take up an 8K video with 30 frames per second in all-round visibility. Alternatively, she films in 5.7K with 60 frames per second.

The resolution and image rate are unchanged in the X5 compared to the pre-model X4, but the new 1/1.28-inch sensors (12.5 mm diagonal) are significantly larger than the previous 1/2-inch chips (8 mm diagonal). The pixel size for the x5 is 2.44 μm; The dynamic area specifies Insta360 with 13.5 aperture levels. The new camera can absorb more light than the predecessor model and should make itself better in dark environments.

Optionally, the camera exports an active HDR video that, according to the manufacturer, shows rich details and colors. Above all, it brightens motifs in the dark. Insta360 recommends the profile for interior scenes and those with backlight or backlight. This mode is available in a maximum of 5.7K resolution. A AI chip and two other image processors should now edit the image faster than with the X4.

The lenses attached to the front and back are heavily arched in order to capture 180 degrees of the field of vision each. However, these particularly exposed glass domes were very susceptible to scratches and even glass fraction in the previous models. Thanks to more robust glass, they should no longer scratch so easily. With the X5, defective lentils can be exchanged with a separate repair kit.

Insta360 also offers lens protection that can be clamped in front of the lens. According to the manufacturer, the standard and premium protective lenses are much more damage-resistant and are ideal for extreme scenarios such as motocross, but are at the expense of image quality.

The battery life indicates Insta360 with 180 minutes, measured at 5.7K with 30 fps. With the X4, it was 135 minutes in comparable conditions. The battery is said to be 80 percent loaded in 20 minutes.

The manufacturer has also improved water resistance. According to IP68, the camera is protected by 15 meters compared to 10 meters on the X4.

The stereo microphone on the front is protected from wind noise by a multi -layer steel network. An optimized audio algorithm is also intended to improve the recorded sound.

In Installame mode, the X5 takes up the complete 360-degree and a flat video aligned on the horizon. The mode distinguishes the two options firm view and selfie view. During the video, the former follows the perspective modes “forward”, “backwards”, “above”, “below” or a custom view. Selfie view recognizes and follows a face, but loses it again and again.

In the app for Android and iOS or the desktop application for Windows and MacOS you can correct colors and use AI templates. Videos can be secured and divided via the paid cloud service Insta360+. The camera software automatically retouched a selfie stick.

The camera can still be controlled via gesture or voice commands. However, the gesture control is not available with Installame.

According to the manufacturer, the X5 is now available. The standard bundle is expected to cost 589.99 euros. In addition to the camera, it contains a USB-C cable, a protective bag and a lens cloth. There is therefore no lens protection in the standard bundle. Standard and premium lens protection are available separately for 30.99 or 42.99 euros. The lens repair kit costs 35.99 euros.

The X5 is not compatible with X4 accessories such as transportetui, diving housing, multifunction frame and quick charging hub due to a different housing.
