The rumors, according to which Meta pays up to three-digit million amounts to reject AI experts from well-known companies, seem to be correct: According to a new report of the Financial news agency Bloomberg the Facebook operator has now taken a good $ 200 million in hand to hire Apple’s former basic model chief. The sum for Ruoming Pang is therefore made up of several areas, so it is not paid immediately. But the total height is actually in the suspected area.
Hummy for one person
Pang is supposed to work in Metas “Superintelligence” team (Meta Superintelligence Labs, MSL for short), with which CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants to implement his dream of general artificial intelligence (Artificial General Intelligence, AGI). Informed circles confirmed the 200 million dollar package, which could allegedly be even above this sum. Pang gets a basic salary, a bonus when signing the contract Plus-and that should make up the main share-a thick meta-stock package. This means that the social network giant has to put relatively little cash on the table.
In addition, payment – or output of the share certificates – is made over several years to keep Pang in the team. Nevertheless, the sums are also unusual in the much hyped AI business. Otherwise such payments only get the most important company bosses or maybe people who have sold their start-up to a group. Pang, on the other hand, is a “normal” employee. He is said to have managed a team of over 100 people, but Apple is by no means a leader in Silicon Valley when it comes to AI. The basic model responsible for Pang is said to be worse than that of Anthropic, Openai or even Meta. In addition, Apple had to postpone AI products like a new, context-sensitive siri because the technicians from the AI department were said to be able to deliver.
Ten Openai employees at Meta
Pang now has to work for Meta for a long time to earn the entire salary and stock package. According to Bloomberg, his contract also includes performance goals. If he leaves the company early, there is significantly less. Nevertheless, the meta- “superintelligence” group has some of the highest salaries at all-they are more comparable to CEO jobs and the investment industry, writes Bloomberg.
Zuckerberg hopes to be able to remove employees of well-known AI companies. Meta supposedly succeeded in luring up to ten Openai experts-also through Zuckerberg itself, which is in the employment process with emails and discussions. Anthropic and Google also lost employees on Meta. Openai boss Sam Altman now announced that it would speak to Zuckerberg at a conference. However, there must be no legal agreements between the corporations, but apparently Altman still hopes for a “Gentleman’s Agreement”.
